Rosa xanthina aka Yellow Rose

Rosa xanthina, also known as the yellow rose or Manchu rose, is a species of flowering plant in the Rosaceae family. It is native to China, Mongolia, and Korea and typically grows on upright, arching canes to 6-9 feet tall with reddish stems armed with reddish-brown thorns. The medium green leaves have 7-13 small broad-ovate leaflets and occasionally produce insignificant fall colors. Semi-double yellow flowers with a musky fragrance appear for several weeks from late April into May in a dense bloom. Some cultivars, such as 'Canary Bird', have earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Rosa xanthina f. hugonis and Rosa xanthina f. spontanea have single flowers. The plant produces attractive spherical to ellipsoid red hips that mature in late summer and persist on the shrub into winter. While it is a relatively rare houseplant, the yellow rose is not challenging to grow and needs regular watering to thrive. It prefers long-lasting, direct light and should be placed less than 1 foot from a window.
